At least four people, including a senior citizen, were hospitalised after a drive-by shooting in the Brixton area of south London. The perpetrator is believed to have “indiscriminately" opened fire from his vehicle in the early hours of Saturday.

A 25-year-old man is in a life-threatening condition, while three others, aged 21, 47, and 70, had non-life-threatening injuries, according to Sky News. No arrests have been made so far.

“We treated four patients at the scene. We took two of them to a major trauma centre and the other two patients to a local hospital," said the London Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan police said no arrests had been made at this time, but detectives were “working at pace to identify those responsible", according to The Guardian. The force was called at 1:14 am after reports of a firearm discharge.

‘Indiscriminate Violence’

DCI Allam Bhangoo, who is leading the investigation, said: “We understand how concerning this incident will be for the local community and want to reassure residents that officers are working at pace to identify those responsible."

“This was an act of indiscriminate violence, and we will work relentlessly to bring the suspects to justice. It is vital that anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information that could assist the investigation, comes forward," he added.

Police conducted searches near Southwyk House estate, Coldharbour Lane, on Saturday and a section of the road remained cordoned off with closures likely to remain until Sunday morning.

The police also said it was investigating whether the stabbing of a man nearby about an hour later was linked to the shooting. A 33-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds in Acre Lane and taken to the hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

Moh John, 45, who works at a supermarket near the estate, said there was a “party" taking place and that he saw people “run away" after the shooting, BBC reported. “It was busy, there was a party… But then I saw the people, some people try to come in the shop and I locked the door," he was quoted as saying.
