A suicide bomber killed at least five, including Waheedullah Mehsud, and injured 10 at a wedding event in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, prompting a major rescue and investigation.

The guests were dancing when the blast occurred.
At least five people were killed and 10 others sustained injuries after a suicide bomber struck a wedding ceremony in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province late Friday night.
The explosion occurred at the residence of Noor Alam Mehsud, a peace committee leader, near Qureshi Morr in the Dera Ismail Khan district. Confirming the nature of the attack, District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada said it was a suicide bombing that took place while wedding celebrations were underway, news agency PTI reported.
It is learnt that guests were dancing when the blast went off, causing the roof of the room to collapse. The collapse obstructed rescue efforts and delayed access to those trapped beneath the rubble.
Soon after, an emergency was declared at the District Headquarter Hospital to accommodate the injured. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi said that five bodies and 10 wounded individuals were shifted to the hospital. He added that seven ambulances, along with a fire and disaster response vehicle, were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident was reported, and rescue operations were ongoing.
Security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the attack. Initial reports indicated that peace committee member Waheedullah Mehsud, also known as Jigri Mehsud, was among those killed.
Condemning the incident, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi directed the provincial inspector general of police to submit a detailed report and vowed that those responsible would be held accountable.
The attack follows a series of assaults targeting peace committee members in the province. Earlier this month, four such members were killed in an armed attack in KP’s Bannu district. In another incident in November 2025, seven people were killed when a peace committee office was attacked in the same district. Police said the victims included a former militant who had surrendered to the state, commonly referred to as a “good Talib," along with several of his relatives.
