Trump said the case against his tariffs was driven by pro-China interests and said an anti-tariff stance supports China.

US President Donald Trump.
The US Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdict on Wednesday, January 14, on President Donald Trump’s global tariff policy. The court will decide whether Trump exceeded his authority by imposing wide-ranging tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977.
The case challenges the legal basis of the tariffs, which have been a central part of Trump’s trade strategy.
What will Trump do if he loses the case in US Court?
Responding to the case, Trump said his administration would explore alternate options if the Supreme Court rules against the tariffs. He claimed the case was driven by pro-China interests and said an anti-tariff stance supports China.
“Every prediction by critics failed. Tariffs aren’t paid by American consumers, they’re paid by foreign nations and middlemen. The so-called experts were 100% wrong and Trump was right," Trump added.
Earlier, Trump warned that losing the case would create serious problems, including the need to refund “hundreds of billions" of dollars. He said this would cause a “complete mess" and damage ongoing trade negotiations. Trump also noted that while no previous president had used IEEPA in this way, his administration was considering backup legal routes, including Section 232, which has been used for steel and aluminium tariffs.
