Amid the ongoing protest in Iran, a video of an elderly woman has surfaced, showing her openly defying the country’s Islamic leadership. In the viral video, she can be seen bleeding from her mouth as she continues to walk forward, confronting security forces and passers-by.
“I’m not afraid. I’ve been dead for 47 years," she can be heard shouting.
The words have been widely interpreted as a reference to the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which took place 47 years ago and transformed Iran into a Shiite Islamic republic.
The revolution overthrew the pro-Western Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and brought cleric Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to power, reshaping the country’s political and social life.
The video was shared on X by Iranian-American journalist and activist Masih Alinejad, who described it as a powerful expression of public frustration. “I’m not afraid. I’ve been dead for 47 years, This is the voice of a woman in Iran who is fed up with the Islamic republic," she wrote.
Alinejad added, “47 years ago, the Islamic Republic took our rights and turned a nation into hostages. Today people have nothing left to lose, they rise. Iran is rising."

The clip comes at a time when Iranian authorities stepped up efforts to suppress anti-government demonstrations. According to reports, the government restricted internet access and cut international telephone calls as protests intensified.
The crackdown came as a nighttime demonstration was called by Iran’s exiled crown prince, prompting people in several areas to shout slogans from their windows before some took to the streets.
According to IHR, over 1,000 people have been arrested across the country, with at least six protestors being killed in a single incident in Ilam province on Saturday.
Protests in Iran have been driven largely by deep economic distress, including soaring inflation, a collapsing currency, and rising costs of food and essentials, which have pushed many citizens into the streets demanding change, while anger over political repression and frustrations with the ruling clerical system have broadened the unrest into wider anti-government demonstrations.
