An Australian mum sparked heated debate online after sharing a strongly worded letter from a neighbour complaining about her children being too noisy in the backyard. Kate, from Australia, posted the note on TikTok after finding it in her mailbox following Easter Sunday. She said she had allowed her four and five-year-old children to stay up later than usual during the school holidays while they played outside.

The anonymous neighbours, who described themselves as “long-suffering", said they had reached breaking point after enduring what they called constant screaming and squealing.

“Hello, we are just requesting a little bit of respect here as one of your long-suffering neighbours," the note began.

The letter went on to complain about the sound of “young children screaming and squealing" from Kate’s home, claiming both they and their dog had to endure the disturbance.

“To have to endure this on Easter Sunday all the way up to 11pm at night was the final straw for my husband and me," the note read.

They also questioned why the children were awake so late and accused the parents of either being drunk or too desensitised to notice the noise.

Kate said she was furious after reading the letter and felt it unfairly targeted her children.

“I was so mad I called my husband and said, ‘Can you believe this is a letter we got?’" she said in her TikTok video.

She insisted the late-night play session was a one-off and said her children were simply enjoying themselves in their own backyard. The video quickly divided social media users, with many siding with the neighbours and saying loud children late at night would be frustrating. Others backed Kate, saying children should be free to play at home without neighbours policing normal family life.
