UKMTO reports a cargo vessel hit by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, with damage, casualties, and environmental impact still unknown

A cargo vessel was hit by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Tuesday, raising fresh concerns over security in one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

The agency said it had received reports of the incident but did not specify the nature or origin of the projectile.

The extent of damage to the vessel and any casualties remain unclear.

Also, UKMTO added that the environmental impact of the strike is also unknown at this stage.
