A lot of people are griping about the Kennedy Center’s name being changed to the Trump-Kennedy Center, but one comedy writer prefers taking action.
And ― spoiler alert! ― it’s pretty hilarious.
“As soon as Trump began gutting the Kennedy Center board earlier this year, I thought, ‘Yep, that name’s going on the building,’” Morton told The Washington Post on Saturday.
Morton wasn’t happy with the name change and took matters into his own hands by purchasing the domain names for “TrumpKennedyCenter.org” and “TrumpKennedyCenter.com” to keep them in his control.
He also kept them under wraps until the sketchy name change was announced last week.
So far, Morton’s Trump-Kennedy Center websites have not gone live, but if they correspond with what Morton has done previously, it could be pretty brutal.
Back in 2022, Morton purchased the domain name for New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik, and made it look like a real political website on the surface.
Morton’s fake Stefanik website then trolled her with fake article headlines like, “Stefanik Shares Blame For Shooting Spree” and “Elise Stefanik: ‘Democrats Are Pedophiles,’” a reference to a tweet she made on the national baby formula shortage that was an issue that year.
He told USA Today that he’s heard from a lot of creatives, writers, designers and performers “offering to contribute and help elevate what comes next.”
“That enthusiasm is shaping the direction of the upcoming site,” he said, “which will focus squarely on Trump’s narcissism, branding impulses, and the broader cultural implications of attaching his name to institutions that were meant to be civic, not personal.”
