Israel and the United States conducted a coordinated strike against Iran on Saturday as negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme faltered, pushing the Middle East into a spiral of renewed military conflict.

In retaliation, Iran also launched missile attacks, targeting Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Earlier today, US President Donald Trump announced that Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei was killed in the strikes. Soon after, the Iranian state media confirmed the killing of the Ayatollah.

Meanwhile, a different story started making rounds across social media that an AI chatbot had predicted the strikes against Iran. Screenshots of the same were widely circulated on ‘X’.

Social media users pointed to Grok, the AI system built by xAI, claiming it had predicted the exact date of the strikes, way before they actually took place.

The posts quicky garnered attention on X, with netizens expressive their views on the event.

The claim stemmed from a February 25 methodological exercise by The Jerusalem Post, which directed four major AI platforms to pick a single day for a hypothetical US strike on Iran. Each AI model was provided with the same prompt.

The four systems that were tasked with the assignment are Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, xAI’s Grok, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Interestingly, xAI’s Grok was the only AI model to have predicted the exact date of the US-Israeli strikes against Iran.

Grok gave the answer loud and clear — Saturday, February 28. In a later check, xAI’s model repeated the same date again. It also listed factors that could shift the timing of the strikes into early March.

MUSK REACTS

Elon Musk, the founder of xAI, reacted to the event, stating, “Prediction of the future is the best measure of intelligence."

On social media records, Grok won because it had predicted the exact date of the strikes against Iran.
