The “Wing of Zion” serves as the primary government aircraft for Israel’s PM and president and is designed to function as a secure command and comms platform during major crises.

Buzz is building around the movement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s official aircraft after aviation watchers and open-source intelligence accounts reported that the plane flew out of Israel and briefly landed in Greece.

Multiple OSINT-focused accounts tracking military and government aircraft said the Israeli Boeing 767, known as the “Wing of Zion", departed Nevatim Airbase in southern Israel and headed towards the Greek island of Crete.

The aircraft later made a quick turnaround and returned to Israel, according to these accounts.

The movement was first flagged by aviation and geopolitical monitoring handles such as Visioner, OSINTdefender and Mossad Commentary, while social media commentator Mario Nawfal described the landing in Greece as similar to patterns seen before previous Israeli strikes on Iran.

News18 could not independently verify the claims made by open-source intelligence and social media accounts regarding the aircraft’s movement or its implications.

Several of these accounts suggested that the aircraft’s movement was being closely watched because the same plane had been repositioned during earlier periods of military escalation.

Last year, Israel and the United States carried out coordinated strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites during a brief but intense 12-day conflict that sharply raised regional tensions.

The attacks came after weeks of mounting pressure and were followed by Iranian missile retaliation against US positions in the region. The episode marked one of the most direct confrontations between Iran, Israel and Washington in recent years.

Against this backdrop, tensions across West Asia are rising following deadly anti-regime protests in Iran.

Reuters reported that some personnel have been advised to leave the US military’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest American base in the region with around 10,000 troops.

Diplomats described the move as a “posture change", not a full evacuation, similar to precautionary steps taken last year before Iranian missile strikes on the base following US attacks on Iran.

Iran has warned regional countries hosting US forces that their bases would be targeted if Washington intervenes.

A senior Iranian official told the news agency that Tehran had conveyed this message to countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Turkey. The warning comes as Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to intervene in Iran, citing the crackdown on protesters, where rights groups say more than 2,400 people have been killed.

The news agency also reported that an Israeli assessment believes Trump has decided to intervene, though the timing and scale remain unclear. Iranian authorities accuse the US and Israel of fuelling unrest.
