The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is reaching a level beyond imagination in today’s world. By the time the school bell rings, the homework of students is already checked and submitted. Yes! You read that right. Chinese schools are pushing far beyond what we once imagined. They are now using AI to check homework.

In a video shared online, advanced neural networks can be seen scanning students’ handwritten notebooks, identifying their mistakes, assigning grades, and generating detailed feedback within seconds.

While AI handles routine grading with impressive accuracy, teachers still step in for essays and creative assignments, where human judgment matters the most.

The tech is already being used in hundreds of schools in Shanghai, reportedly over 110 schools, including cities like Beijing and other major cities.

Reportedly, devices like the SPARK AI Grader P30 from iFlytek process up to ~26 pages per minute. The tech has helped cut teachers’ workload by up to 50 percent, and let educators focus on real teaching instead of endless marking.

The use of AI has surged in schools in China were it is seen that the technology is no longer an option for the students, but has become mandatory and part of the day-to-day routine.

According to Chinese media, the lack of devices and funds to popularise AI in education is particularly noticeable in rural and economically disadvantaged regions. Lack of qualified teachers presents another obstacle to bringing AI into classrooms.
