PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, with discussions likely to focus on trade, innovation, among other things.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a ceremonial aerial escort from Swedish Gripen fighter jets as his aircraft entered Swedish airspace ahead of his arrival in Gothenburg on Sunday. After landing in Gothenburg, PM Modi was accorded a warm welcome by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at the airport.

Visuals shared online showed Swedish Air Force fighter jets flying alongside Modi’s aircraft during the final stretch of its journey to Gothenburg, where the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold high level meetings with Swedish leaders and top European industry executives.

PM Modi’s Sweden visit is part of his ongoing five nation Europe and West Asia tour, which includes stops in the United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy.

Earlier during his visit to the United Arab Emirates, Modi’s aircraft was similarly escorted by F-16 fighter jets after entering UAE airspace, highlighting the ceremonial honours extended during his ongoing foreign tour.

Meanwhile, during his May 17-18 visit, PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, with discussions likely to focus on trade, innovation, artificial intelligence, defence cooperation, green transition, emerging technologies and climate action.

According to the Swedish government, PM Modi and Kristersson will also interact with leading European business executives and jointly address the European Round Table for Industry alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

This marks Modi’s second visit to Sweden after he attended the inaugural India-Nordic Summit in Stockholm in 2018.
