Hungary’s political transition on Saturday was marked not only by the swearing-in of new Prime Minister Peter Magyar, but also by a celebratory dance performance by politician Zsolt Hegedus that quickly drew attention online.
Hegedus, often referred to as Hungary’s “dancing politician," performed on the steps of parliament following the oath-taking ceremony, in scenes that became one of the standout moments of the day’s celebrations.
Hegedus is considered one of the key figures in Magyar’s team and is also being viewed as a possible candidate for the health minister’s post.

The dance came as thousands gathered outside Hungary’s parliament building to witness what Peter Magyar described as the beginning of a “new chapter" in the country’s history after defeating long-time leader Viktor Orban in last month’s election.
CELEBRATIONS OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT
Reuters reported that centre-right leader Peter Magyar was sworn in as Hungary’s prime minister on Saturday after securing a landslide victory that ended Viktor Orban’s 16 years in power.
As celebrations unfolded outside parliament, Hegedus’ energetic dance performance added a lighter and symbolic moment to a politically significant day.
The clip of the politician dancing was widely described as him “absolutely owning it," according to the information shared.
The event itself had been framed by Magyar as a “regime-change" celebration, with large crowds waving Hungarian and European Union flags outside the parliament building.
AP reported that many supporters wore Tisza party shirts as they gathered to celebrate the end of the Orban era.
MAGYAR PROMISES A ‘NEW CHAPTER’
During his address, Magyar said Hungarians had delivered a mandate for sweeping political change.
“Hungarian people have given us a mandate to put an end to decades of drifting," Reuters quoted him as saying.
“They have given us a mandate to open a new chapter in Hungary’s history. Not only to change the government, but to change the system as well. To start again," he added.
According to AP, Magyar later addressed supporters outside parliament and declared, “Today, every freedom-loving person in the world would like to be Hungarian a little."
“You have taught the country and the world that it is the most ordinary, flesh-and-blood people that can defeat the most vicious tyranny," he said to loud applause from supporters gathered at Kossuth Square.
DANCE MOMENT SYMBOLISES CHANGING POLITICAL ERA
The celebratory dance by Hegedus came amid broader scenes of optimism among Magyar supporters, many of whom see the new administration as the beginning of a democratic reset in Hungary.
AP reported that Magyar has pledged to restore democratic institutions, repair ties with the European Union and tackle alleged corruption linked to the previous administration.
The political atmosphere outside parliament reflected that sense of transition, with supporters celebrating what they viewed as a historic change in leadership.
Against that backdrop, Hegedus’ dance performance emerged as one of the defining visuals of the day.
Reuters reported that Magyar now faces immediate economic and diplomatic challenges, including efforts to unlock suspended European Union funding and stabilise Hungary’s finances after years of economic stagnation.
