Donald Trump said he did not want to see anyone killed but argued that the situation was dangerous for law enforcement.

US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump described the fatal shooting of a woman in Minneapolis by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent as “a vicious situation," while saying the woman was at fault for allegedly trying to run over the officer.
The woman, identified as 37-year-old Renee Good, was shot dead during an encounter with ICE officers earlier this week. Federal officials said Renee Good attempted to strike an agent with her vehicle, prompting the officer to open fire.
In an interview with The New York Times, Donald Trump said he did not want to see anyone killed but argued that the situation was dangerous for law enforcement.
“I want to see nobody get shot," he said, adding, “I want to see nobody screaming and trying to run over policemen either."
However, after watching surveillance footage of the incident during the interview, Donald Trump appeared visibly uncomfortable. As the video ended, he said, “It’s a terrible scene. I think it’s horrible to watch. No, I hate to see it."
When asked whether the ICE agent’s response was excessive, Donald Trump did not give a direct answer, instead shifting criticism toward former President Joe Biden and past immigration policies.
What Donald Trump Said Earlier On Truth Social
Donald Trump had earlier weighed in on the shooting in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he strongly defended the ICE agent involved.
“I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch," Donald Trump wrote. He described the woman who was shot as “very disorderly, obstructing and resisting," and claimed she “violently, willfully and viciously ran over the ICE officer," who he said fired in self-defence.
While acknowledging that the incident was still under review, Donald Trump blamed what he called the “Radical Left" for escalating tensions around immigration enforcement.
“The reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis," he wrote.
Why Is ICE In Minneapolis?
The shooting comes amid a major expansion of federal immigration enforcement in Minneapolis. The Donald Trump administration has deployed an additional 2,000 federal agents to the area in recent weeks, citing allegations of welfare fraud in the state.
The deployment, which began on Sunday, is one of the largest concentrations of Department of Homeland Security personnel in a single US city in recent years. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey criticised the operation, saying ICE’s presence was not making the city safer.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the ICE operation, saying agents would remain in the area. She said more than 2,000 DHS officers had been deployed as part of what officials describe as the largest immigration enforcement operation to date.
