The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a strong statement expressing disappointment over Pakistan’s decision to selectively participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The ICC’s official response came hours after the Pakistan government directed the national team to decide on participation based on security and bilateral considerations.

In its statement, the ICC highlighted that selective participation goes against the core principles of international cricket tournaments.

“This position of selective participation is difficult to reconcile with the fundamental premise of a global sporting event where all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms per the event schedule.”

The governing body stressed that ICC events are built on “sporting integrity, competitiveness, consistency and fairness,” and any deviation undermines the spirit of the competition.
