The statement came after Pakistani officials pointed fingers at India. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif suggested India’s and Afghanistan’s involvement in the attack.

India on Friday strongly condemned the suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Pakistan’s capital, which killed at least 31 people and wounded more than 169. At the same time, New Delhi firmly rejected any suggestion of Indian involvement, calling such allegations “baseless and pointless."

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) wrote, “The bombing at an Islamabad mosque earlier today is condemnable and India condoles the loss of life it has caused."

“It is unfortunate that, instead of seriously addressing the problems plaguing its social fabric, Pakistan should choose to delude itself by blaming others for its home-grown ills. India rejects any and every such allegation, which is as baseless as it is pointless," it added.

The statement came after Pakistani officials pointed fingers at India. Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif suggested India’s and Afghanistan’s involvement in the attack, writing on X that “it has been proved that the terrorist involved in the attack travelled to and from Afghanistan. The collusion between India and Afghanistan is being revealed."

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s spokesperson, Mosharraf Zaidi, also claimed the bombing at the Khadijatul Kubra Imambargah was “only the latest in a series of murderous terrorist attacks orchestrated by India," adding that “India’s terrorist proxies will neither slow down economic recovery nor divide Pakistani hearts nor undermine Pakistan’s growing diplomatic capital."

The suicide bomber struck during Friday prayers in Islamabad’s Tarlai area. Police said he was stopped at the gate of the mosque but detonated himself, causing massive casualties.

This attack is the deadliest in Islamabad since September 2008, when a suicide truck bomb destroyed part of the five-star Marriott Hotel, killing 60. The last major attack in the capital happened in November last year, when a suicide blast outside a court killed 12 people and injured dozens.
