Who Was Vidhi Meghani?
Vidhi Kalpeshbhai Meghani was a 22-year-old Indian-origin student from Gujarat who was killed in a knife attack in Canada’s Niagara region. This incident marked yet another tragic case involving a young Indian student abroad.
Meghani hailed from Borsad in Gujarat’s Anand district. She had been living in Canada for the past four years, where she was pursuing her studies while also working part-time.
According to reports, the incident took place on May 15 in Niagara. Canadian police have registered a case and launched a search operation to trace the suspect involved in the attack. The motive behind the murder remains unclear so far.
The latest case has once again raised concerns about the safety of Indian students in Canada. In recent years, several Indian-origin students have died in violent attacks, shootings, accidents and other suspicious circumstances. In one such incident in December 2024, Punjabi student Harshandeep Singh was shot dead in Edmonton while working as a security guard.
