Iran has laid down five “trust-building" conditions for resuming a second round of negotiations with the United States, according to Fars News Agency on Tuesday. The report said Tehran views the demands as “minimum guarantees" required before it can return to the negotiating table with Washington.

According to the report, Iran’s conditions include ending the conflict across all fronts, particularly in Lebanon, lifting US sanctions on Tehran, releasing frozen Iranian funds held abroad, compensating Iran for war-related damages and recognising Iran’s sovereign rights over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The report said the conditions were framed “strictly within the framework of establishing a minimum level of trust" necessary to restart negotiations. Tehran reportedly believes fresh talks cannot begin unless the conditions are implemented in practical terms.

Iran also informed Pakistani mediators that the continued US naval blockade in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman, even after the ceasefire announcement, had further deepened Tehran’s distrust towards negotiations with Washington.
