Chinese President Xi Jinping has put forward a four-point proposal aimed at promoting peace and stability in West Asia. The announcement comes at a time when the United States and Iran are preparing for a second round of talks on Thursday.

Meeting with UAE leadership

According to Xinhua News Agency, Xi presented the proposal during a meeting with Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The interaction focused on regional developments and efforts to bring stability to an area facing continued tensions. The proposal was shared as part of China’s engagement with key stakeholders in the region.

What we know about the 4 point plan?

Peaceful coexistence in the region: The plan highlights the importance of peaceful coexistence among countries in the Middle East.

Respect for national sovereignty: It stresses that nations must respect each other’s sovereignty and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.

Better coordination between development and security policies: The proposal also underlines the need for stronger coordination between development goals and security policies across the region. This approach aims to ensure that economic progress and security concerns move forward together. Another key element of the proposal is improved cooperation between countries on development and security matters. By aligning these priorities, the plan suggests that long-term stability can be achieved. The emphasis is on creating a balanced framework where economic growth supports peace, and security measures do not disrupt development efforts.

Upholding international law: Xi also called for strict adherence to international law. He warned against the selective use of global rules, stating that such an approach weakens the international system.

“Safeguard the authority of the international rule of law. It can’t be ‘use it when it suits us, discard it when it doesn’t,’ and we cannot allow the world to revert to the law of the jungle," he said, according to Xinhua.

The proposal comes amid the continued geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Several major powers are actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to stabilise the region. China’s proposal is part of global attempts to address conflicts and promote dialogue among countries.
