US-Iran War News Live Updates: U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday cancelled a scheduled visit by envoys — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — to Islamabad, citing Iran’s failure to present an acceptable peace proposal.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social that Iran “offered a lot but not enough”. “If they want to talk, all they have to do is call,” said the U.S. President.
“They gave us a paper that should have been better, and interestingly, immediately, when I cancelled it, within 10 minutes, we got a new paper that was much better,” he told journalists aboard Air Force One.
Although he did not disclose specifics, he insisted that any deal must guarantee Iran “will not have a nuclear weapon”.
Araghchi’s Exit From Pakistan
The development followed Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi’s exit from Pakistan, where he had touted a possible de-escalation framework through mediators.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian told Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that Tehran would not engage in talks with Washington under pressure.
Tehran has ruled out direct negotiations for now, though FM Araghchi is expected to head back to Islamabad after consultations in Tehran and a stop in Oman.
