US-Iran War News Live Updates: Uncertainty hangs over the next round of talks between Iran and the United States. As Iran fails to respond, Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Islamabad has been called off.
Meanwhile, President Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire and continuation of the Hormuz blockade against Iran until a proposal for peace is sent by Tehran. Iran acknowledged the ceasefire extension, without confirming that it would attend the new round of talks in Islamabad.
Tensions between the two sides escalated sharply after the US Navy seized an Iranian cargo vessel near the Strait of Hormuz—an act Iran has condemned as “piracy” and a violation of ceasefire understandings, warning of possible retaliation. The situation is further complicated by Washington’s continued naval blockade of Iranian ports, which Tehran views as overtly hostile.
Adding to the unpredictability, Donald Trump has delivered mixed messaging, alternating between expressing optimism about a potential deal and issuing warnings of escalation, including suggesting that a ceasefire may not be renewed. The ceasefire deal between the two sides are set to expire on Wednesday.
