Israel’s military chief Eyal Zamir on Monday warned that 2026 is expected to be another year of sustained conflict, with the country likely to remain engaged on multiple fronts.
Zamir said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has been in continuous combat since the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas, which triggered the Gaza war.
“Since 7 October, the IDF has been engaged in an ongoing multi-front campaign… 2026 is likely to be another year of fighting on all of those fronts," he said.
The remarks come as Israel continues to confront threats from Iran and the Lebanon-based group Hezbollah, alongside ongoing operations in Gaza.
Zamir also highlighted growing pressure on the military, stressing the urgent need to expand troop numbers to meet operational demands.
“Given the growing tasks facing the IDF… the urgent need facing the state of Israel is to increase the number of military personnel and fighters," he said.
The warning underscores expectations of prolonged instability in the region, with Israel preparing for continued multi-front engagements in the coming year.
