Jeff Bezos may soon part ways with Koru, the giant luxury yacht that has become one of the most talked-about private vessels in the world. Reports claim the Amazon founder is quietly looking for buyers because the yacht has become too difficult and expensive to manage.

The 417-foot yacht, estimated to be worth around $500 million, has often grabbed attention because of its size, luxury features and celebrity guests. But according to reports, maintaining the massive vessel has now become a challenge even for one of the world’s richest men.

Yacht Became Difficult To Manage

According to a report by Page Six, Bezos has started exploring the possibility of selling Koru. A source quoted by the publication claimed the yacht had become “too huge to manage."

The report also said the vessel’s popularity has made it harder for Bezos to travel privately. Over the last few years, Koru has regularly appeared in paparazzi photographs during vacations across Europe.

The yacht was built by Dutch company Oceanco and was earlier known as “Project 271." It first drew attention in 2021 while under construction and officially entered service in 2023 after sea trials in the North Sea.

At 417 feet long, Koru is reportedly considered one of the world’s largest sailing yachts. It features three huge masts, several decks and large outdoor lounging spaces.

Luxury Features Inside Koru

The yacht is packed with high-end facilities designed for luxury travel. Reports say it includes a glass-bottom swimming pool, three jacuzzis and room for up to 18 guests.

Koru also needs a crew of around 36 people to operate it properly. The yacht is accompanied by a separate support vessel called Abeona, which is reportedly worth around $75 million. The smaller ship includes a helipad and storage areas used to support the main yacht during long journeys.

Together, both vessels are believed to cost nearly $30 million every year to maintain and operate. Reports also claim the yacht has water cannons installed for protection against pirates.

Mermaid Statue Drew Attention

One of the yacht’s most talked-about features is the wooden mermaid sculpture attached to the front of the vessel. After pictures of the statue surfaced online, many people believed it looked similar to Bezos’ wife Lauren Sánchez.

However, Sánchez later explained that the figure was actually inspired by Freyja, the Norse goddess linked to love, fertility, war and gold. The statue also carries gold detailing and a necklace featuring the Koru symbol. Since its launch, Koru has been closely linked to Bezos and Sánchez’s luxury lifestyle. The couple were photographed aboard the yacht near Mallorca in 2023.

Later that year, Bezos proposed to Sánchez while they were vacationing in the south of France on the yacht. Over time, the vessel became a regular part of their travels across places like Ibiza, Cannes, Portofino and Capri.

Koru has also hosted several famous guests, including Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, Katy Perry and Usher. The yacht was also seen during Bezos and Sánchez’s wedding celebrations in Venice in 2025.
