Johnny Depp hit by major credit card fraud, over 520,000 pounds stolen via 308 small transactions, Hungarian police arrest 27 year old Jordanian suspect in Budapest.

Johnny Depp loses nearly 7 crore in credit card scam, suspect held.
Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has reportedly become the victim of a major credit card fraud case after more than £520,000 (over ₹6 crore) was allegedly siphoned from his account through hundreds of transactions carried out over nearly two years without his knowledge.
The case surfaced after an American bank reportedly detected suspicious activity linked to Depp’s account and alerted authorities. Investigators later traced the transactions to Budapest, Hungary, leading to the arrest of a suspect earlier this month.
What Exactly Happened?
According to reports, the alleged fraud took place between January 2024 and December 2025.
During this period, Depp’s stolen credit card details were allegedly used for 308 separate transactions, including online purchases, accommodation bookings and other payments made through internet platforms.
Authorities estimate the total amount spent exceeded £536,000. Investigators believe the transactions were deliberately kept relatively small, allowing them to evade detection for an extended period.
Because Depp is one of Hollywood’s wealthiest actors, reports suggest the repeated low-value transactions may have gone unnoticed for months before the bank identified unusual patterns.
Who Was Arrested?
Hungarian police arrested a 27-year-old Jordanian national in Budapest after tracing the suspicious activity to an apartment in the city’s Angyalföld district.
Investigators reportedly linked the suspect to the alleged fraud through:
- IP address records
- Email accounts
- A Hungarian phone number
- Booking and payment data
During a police raid, officers seized multiple electronic devices believed to be connected to the operation.
Authorities also said suspected narcotics were recovered from the apartment, prompting a separate investigation.
The suspect has denied the allegations but has been placed in pre-trial detention.
How Were Depp’s Card Details Stolen?
Investigators are still trying to determine exactly how Depp’s credit card information was obtained.
Possible scenarios being examined include:
- A data breach
- Compromised online transactions
- Credit card information theft
- Cybercrime-related activity
Authorities have not publicly identified the source of the card data and say the investigation remains ongoing.
Was Johnny Depp Aware?
Reports indicate that Depp was completely unaware that his card information had allegedly been used for nearly two years.
The fraud only came to light after the bank detected unusual activity and launched an internal investigation.
Depp has spent significant time in Budapest in recent years while working on film projects, including Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness.
Why Is The Case Unusual?
Financial fraud involving celebrities is not uncommon, but investigators say the scale and duration of the alleged scheme make this case particularly notable.
Instead of carrying out a few large transactions, the suspect allegedly conducted hundreds of smaller purchases over a prolonged period, a tactic often used to avoid triggering fraud-monitoring systems.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that additional individuals could have been involved, and further arrests remain possible as the investigation continues.
The Bigger Picture
The case highlights how even high-profile individuals with extensive financial safeguards can become targets of sophisticated cybercrime and financial fraud schemes.
Investigators are continuing to examine how the card information was obtained and whether similar activity may have affected other victims.
