Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said Tuesday that she feels “very sorry for President Trump” when asked for her reaction to his latest Truth Social rant against her.
“It has to be a hard place for someone that is constantly so hateful and puts so much vitriol, name-calling, and really tells lies about people in order to try to get his way or win some kind of fight,” Greene, a once die-hard MAGA supporter who announced last month she’s resigning from Congress, said on CNN’s “The Situation Room.”
“I personally think that that’s poor leadership from a president ... and Americans are very tired of it,” she continued.
In his 250-word screed against her Monday morning, Trump raged against Greene, using one of his new nicknames for her.
“The only reason Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown (Green turns Brown under stress!) went BAD is that she was JILTED by the President of the United States (Certainly not the first time she has been jilted!),” Trump wrote. “Too much work, not enough time, and her ideas are, NOW, really BAD - She sort of reminds me of a Rotten Apple! Marjorie is not AMERICA FIRST or MAGA, because nobody could have changed her views so fast, and her new views are those of a very dumb person.”
During her CNN appearance, Greene shared that Trump didn’t care when she told him she’d received death threats directed at both her and her son after he branded her as a “traitor” for pushing to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.
“It was shocking to me,” she said. “I sent those death threats directly to him in a text message and informed him of what his name-calling and words were doing, the direct result. And it was a direct assassination threat on my son. And he was extremely ― I won’t repeat what he said, but it was extremely unkind, no sympathy, no care.”
The president’s willingness to turn on Greene should put all of his supporters on alert, she added.
“What many people are saying to me is, if he would do this to you, he would do that to any of us,” she said. “And that, I think, is a terrible message to be sent to the country and many of the people that stood, goodness, hours in line for a MAGA rally.”
