President Donald Trump on Sunday criticised Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance, even as the Puerto Rican singer used the stage to send a message of unity through football.

Bad Bunny headlined the Apple Music Super Bowl LX halftime show on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The reggaeton star delivered a 13-minute set celebrating Latin culture, marking the first solo Latino and Spanish-language performance at the event.

What Trump said?

Reacting to the show, in a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching throughout the U.S.A…"

He added, “The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence."

Trump also said, “There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD — And, by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new Kickoff Rule."

He ended his message with “Make America Great Again."

Trump’s remarks came as Bad Bunny also faced criticism over the display of foreign flags during the performance, which he used to convey a message of unity.

Trump ally Laura Loomer sought an apology from the NFL and said someone should call ICE over the presence of foreign flags. She claimed there was nothing “American" about the display.

Earlier controversy

Bad Bunny had already been at the centre of controversy after the NFL announced him as the halftime performer. Some critics pointed out that most of his songs are in Spanish and referred to his stance about ICE.

His recent comments at the Grammy Awards, where he repeated his criticism, added to the backlash.
