Trump China Visit: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday (local time) hosted US President Donald Trump for a lavish state banquet, serving a menu that appeared carefully curated for the US President’s selective food preferences.

The dinner took place in the “Golden Room" inside the Great Hall of the People, where chandeliers, Chinese lanterns and a large orange backdrop created the atmosphere of a sunset-lit hall. The venue was decorated in traditional Chinese style, with table settings inspired by classical Chinese architecture.

A Banquet Blending Chinese Cuisine and Familiar Flavours

Guests at the banquet were served a selection of Chinese delicacies, beginning with hors d’oeuvres before moving to the main course.

The menu included lobster in tomato soup, crispy beef ribs, Beijing roast duck, stewed seasonal vegetables, slow-cooked salmon in mustard sauce and pan-fried pork buns.

Desserts featured a trumpet shell-shaped pastry, tiramisu, fruits and ice cream.

Trump’s Well-Known Food Preferences

Trump is well known for his fondness for fast food, steaks and diet soda. Over the years, Trump has frequently spoken about his preference for meals from major fast-food chains.

During his first presidential term, he often served fast food at White House events, including burgers, fries and pizza for visiting sports teams. Trump has said he prefers fast food partly because of its consistency and cleanliness standards.

He has also been described as a picky eater who generally avoids heavily seasoned dishes, sushi and unfamiliar fine dining options. Trump’s preference for well-done steak served with ketchup has frequently attracted attention during official events and state visits.

Foreign hosts have often adapted menus to suit his tastes during diplomatic trips, commonly including steak, potatoes or vanilla ice cream alongside local cuisine.

What Was Trump Served During Last China Visit?

During Trump’s previous visit to China in 2017, Chinese officials also tailored the state banquet menu to his preferences. According to Reuters, the meal included Huaiyang-style dishes such as stewed beef with tomato and braised vegetables, seen as a nod to Trump’s liking for simple, familiar flavours.

China has long used food and ceremonial hospitality as part of its diplomatic outreach to visiting world leaders, and Thursday’s banquet continued that tradition as Trump and Xi held talks on trade, technology and global security issues.
