A US Secret Service officer was involved in a shooting near the White House on Sunday while President Donald Trump was attending a business-related event inside the complex, according to officials.

The incident reportedly unfolded close to the White House perimeter, prompting an immediate security response from federal law enforcement agencies.

The United States Secret Service confirmed that one of its officers discharged a weapon during an encounter, though details about the circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity or condition of the individual who was shot, nor have they specified whether the person posed a direct threat to the White House or to Trump.

At the time of the incident, Trump was inside the White House hosting a business event. Officials said the president was safe and there was no breach of the secured compound.

Law enforcement agencies temporarily sealed off parts of the surrounding area as investigators examined the scene.

The Secret Service said the matter remains under investigation and additional details would be released once available.

The shooting comes amid heightened security concerns surrounding Trump following recent assassination attempts and threats targeting the president during his 2024 and 2025 campaign events.

Monday’s  shooting near the White House is likely to intensify scrutiny of security operations around the president, particularly as tensions remain high domestically and internationally.

Authorities temporarily sealed off roads around the White House as investigators examined the scene. The Secret Service said the incident remains under investigation and more details will be released later.

The shooting comes amid heightened security concerns surrounding Trump following multiple assassination threats and attempts targeting him over the past year.

In the most recent incident in April 2026, authorities said 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen allegedly attempted to storm a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

According to investigators, Allen was armed with a pump-action shotgun, a semi-automatic handgun and three knives. He allegedly opened fire toward a staircase leading to the ballroom, striking a Secret Service agent in the chest. The agent survived after his ballistic vest absorbed the impact.

Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance were immediately evacuated from the venue. Allen was later arrested and now faces multiple federal charges, including attempted assassination.

The April attack came months after Trump survived another assassination attempt during a rally in Butler in 2025, where a gunman fired at the stage from a nearby rooftop, grazing Trump’s ear and killing one attendee before being shot dead by security personnel.

Sunday’s latest shooting near the White House is likely to intensify scrutiny of presidential security operations as federal agencies continue to warn about elevated threats from lone actors and politically motivated violence.

Authorities temporarily sealed off nearby roads as investigators examined the scene. The Secret Service said the matter remains under investigation and further details would be released later.
