US President Donald Trump has announced a major push to declassify government records related to aliens, UFOs and unexplained aerial phenomena, directing federal agencies to release long-secret files to the public.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had instructed War Secretary Pete Hegseth and intelligence agencies to begin releasing files connected to “alien and extraterrestrial life, UAP, and unidentified flying objects (UFOs)."
“Any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters," Trump wrote.
Following the directive, the Department of War, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and other agencies launched a large-scale review and declassification process involving millions of government records collected over decades.
What The Newly Released Files Show
Officials said the archive contains photos, videos, radar records and military reports involving unexplained aerial objects observed by government personnel and armed forces.
Among the material being released are:
- Infrared images of unidentified objects over the western United States.
- A mysterious object spotted beneath a helicopter during flight.
- Military sensor footage showing unknown airborne objectsA recreated 2023 sighting of a strange aerial object in the southeastern US.
- Apollo 17 archival images showing unexplained lights above the Moon’s surface
- Footage of a reported UAP near the United Arab Emirates
- Radar imagery of unidentified objects over ocean airspace near Greece
- A football-shaped object reportedly observed near Japan by US Indo-Pacific Command
- Reports of unidentified aerial activity in African airspace
- A 2020 US Air Force report involving unusual aerial sightings over the southern United States
- A 2026 US Army report documenting unexplained aerial activity in North America
Authorities described the cases as “unresolved," saying investigators were unable to conclusively determine what the objects were due to incomplete or limited data.
‘Time The American People See It’
Pete Hegseth said the Trump administration was committed to “unprecedented transparency" regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs).
“These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fuelled justified speculation and it’s time the American people see it for themselves," Hegseth said.
The Department of War said documents would be released in phases over the coming weeks and encouraged independent researchers and the public to review the material.
Officials said the goal of the initiative was to increase transparency and allow public access to records that had remained classified for decades.
