The project achieved a major breakthrough in May 2026.

The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel is set to be the world's longest submerged undersea tunnel. It will directly connect Germany and Denmark. The project is considered one of Europe's most ambitious infrastructure projects.

The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel, approximately 18 kilometers long, is being built under the Baltic Sea. Upon completion, travel will become easier than ever.

Currently, it takes approximately 60 minutes to cross the Baltic Sea. Once the new tunnel is completed, this distance will be covered by train in just 7 minutes. This will bring significant benefits to both travellers and businesses.

This tunnel is not being dug using the traditional method. Large sections of it are being built and then submerged in the sea.

In May 2026, the project reached a significant milestone. The first massive segment of the tunnel was successfully installed in place.

The first segment was 217 meters long and weighed approximately 73,000 tons. Installing such a massive structure underwater was a major engineering challenge.

Engineers had to fit this part with extreme precision. The segments were placed within an error limit of only 3 millimeters. This is a remarkable example of modern engineering and technology.

The project is expected to be completed by 2029. This will further strengthen the connection between Germany and Denmark. The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel could add a new chapter to Europe's transportation network.
