House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) demanded the president stop bullying people from behind a screen after he posted a schlocky and offensive AI-generated video mocking top Democrats on Monday night.
President Donald Trump relished the chance to ridicule Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) after he failed to reach an agreement with them to avoid a government shutdown during a meeting at the White House on Monday.
Jeering at the Democrats for airing their frustrations in a post-negotiations press conference, Trump posted altered footage of the briefing that showed Jeffries donning a sombrero and a heavy mustache while mariachi music played in the background.
Fabricated audio replacing Schumer’s actual remarks said that “nobody likes Democrats” because of “all of our woke, trans bullshit” before proposing to get undocumented immigrants to vote for Democrats with the promise of free health care.
The fake Schumer quote and stereotypical references to Mexican culture played on Republicans’ false claim that Democrats are demanding health care for undocumented immigrants in exchange for avoiding a shutdown.
Jeffries: "The next time you have something to say about me, don't cop out through a racist and fake AI video. When I'm back in the Oval Office, say it to my face." pic.twitter.com/4z2CUygsT0
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 30, 2025Jeffries fumed about the video during a Tuesday appearance on the steps of the Capitol, where he said, “Mr. President, the next time you have something to say about me, don’t cop out through a racist and fake AI video. When I’m back in the Oval Office, say it to my face. Say it to my face.”

Soon after Jeffries’ comments, Trump told reporters he had a “very good discussion” with Schumer and the “very nice gentleman” from New York (he did not mention Jeffries by name) and was going to “see what happens” when it comes to compromising with Democrats.
