His comments come amid growing scrutiny over whether the US airstrikes on Iran's nuclear sites dealt a decisive blow to Tehran's capabilities.

US President Donald Trump rejected early intelligence assessments downplaying the impact of the strikes on Iran’s nuclear program, declaring that the facilities were “completely destroyed" and comparing the outcome to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.
“I don’t want to draw parallels with Hiroshima or Nagasaki, but it’s essentially something similar that ended that war. And this ended this war," Donald Trump said at the NATO summit in The Hague. His comments come amid growing scrutiny over whether the US airstrikes- which targeted Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan- dealt a decisive blow to Tehran’s capabilities, as claimed by the White House.
Donald Trump Dismisses Pentagon Intelligence As “Fake News"
Donald Trump launched a blistering attack on media outlets that reported on a preliminary Pentagon assessment suggesting that Iran’s core nuclear infrastructure remained largely intact. Citing unnamed intelligence officials, CNN and The New York Times reported that the strikes likely set Iran’s program back by only a few months.
“Fake news CNN, together with the failing New York Times, have teamed up in an attempt to demean one of the most successful military strikes in history," Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, asserting, “The nuclear sites in Iran are completely destroyed!"
White House Backs Donald Trump’s Claim Of ‘Obliteration’
The White House echoed Donald Trump’s stance, calling the intelligence report “flat-out wrong" as Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that “everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000-pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration."
Hiroshima-Nagasaki Bombings
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 remain the only use of nuclear weapons in war. The bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, known as Little Boy, killed an estimated 140,000 people, while the second bomb, Fat Man, dropped on Nagasaki on August 9, killed around 70,000. Both cities were devastated, with most deaths occurring within days and many more following due to radiation exposure. The bombings forced Japan’s surrender and brought World War II to an end.
