US President Donald Trump is expected to convene a high-level Situation Room meeting with top national security officials on Tuesday to discuss possible military options against Iran amid escalating tensions over Tehran’s nuclear programme, according to reports.

The meeting, first reported by Axios, comes days after Trump sharply escalated his rhetoric against Iran, warning that “the clock is ticking" and cautioning that “there won’t be anything left of them" if Iranian leaders fail to respond to US demands.

The US and Iran remain locked in a tense standoff after Trump rejected Tehran’s latest response to a proposed peace framework as “totally unacceptable". He also described the fragile ceasefire between the two countries as being on “life support", raising fears of renewed military confrontation.

The dispute centres on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, with Washington demanding stricter curbs on uranium enrichment and guarantees that Tehran will not pursue nuclear weapons capability. Iran, however, has maintained that its nuclear programme is for civilian purposes and has opposed several US conditions tied to sanctions relief and regional security arrangements.

According to reports, senior US officials are weighing multiple options, including tougher military deterrence measures and increased pressure in the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, through which a major share of global oil shipments passes.
