Trump said the bombing would stop based on a request from Iran's leaders but would resume the following day if a deal is not signed.

US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump said Iranian officials have directly contacted him seeking an end to American military strikes, while warning that attacks would resume if Tehran fails to reach an agreement with Washington.
Speaking to Fox News amid a night of US military operations against Iran, Trump said he had spoken directly with Iranian representatives and suggested that ongoing bombing campaigns could be paused at Iran’s request.
According to the report, Trump said the bombing would stop based on a request from Iran’s leaders but would resume the following day if a deal is not signed.
The US President also sought to distance Israel from the latest round of attacks, telling Fox News that Israeli forces were not involved in the most recent US strikes on Iranian targets.
The remarks came as the United States launched fresh military operations against Iran following an intensifying exchange of fire between the two countries. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that American forces would carry out another round of strikes, marking the second straight night of military action ordered by Washington.
“We’ll strike them hard tonight and hopefully Iran makes a good decision," Hegseth said, adding, “We will hit them hard on our terms, on the targets that improve the environment for us to operate in and undermine the capabilities that Iran wants to have."
Hegseth also stressed that the Trump administration remains open to a negotiated settlement but is prepared to use military force to achieve its objectives.
“If we need to negotiate with bombs, we’ll negotiate with bombs. And we’re very good at it. Nobody better in the world," he said.
“President Trump, he’s willing to go back and fight as necessary, but has given Iran an open hand to make this deal. It’s right there. They have that chance. They’re choosing to play games."
The latest developments follow a sharp escalation in hostilities after Iran allegedly downed a US military helicopter, prompting retaliatory American strikes on Iranian targets. Tehran subsequently launched attacks against US military installations in the region, raising fears of a wider conflict across West Asia.
