President Donald Trump lashed out at a reporter for asking a “dumb question” ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday.
The pair met up at Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida resort for the next round of talks to end Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
After a reporter questioned Trump over whether he is “prepared to sign a security agreement today” for Ukraine’s protection, the right-wing leader chastised him over his inquiry.
“Well, it depends on what the security agreements — ” Trump began before pausing mid-sentence to slam the reporter. “What a stupid question. Nobody even knows what the security agreement is going to say.”
The president continued, “But there will be a security agreement, it’ll be a strong agreement, and the European nations are very much involved in that. They’ll be very much involved in protection, etc.”
Trump went on to say that the “European nations have been really great” and are “very much in line with this meeting.”
“They all want to get it done, and they’ve been very supportive, I think,” he added.

Another reporter then asked Trump what his reaction has been to the people who have said that Russia’s recent attacks on Ukraine in the past couple of days shows that Russian President Vladimir Putin “isn’t serious about [reaching a] peace [agreement].”
Russia launched multiple strikes against Ukraine on Saturday, leaving at least one person dead and several others injured.
In response, Trump argued that Ukraine has launched some “very strong attacks” against Russia of their own, before noting that he was not saying that “negatively.”
“There have been some explosions in various parts of Russia, and it looks to me like, I don’t know, I don’t think it came from the Congo,” Trump continued. “I don’t think it came from the United States of America. It possibly came from Ukraine, but I haven’t asked that question — maybe I won’t bother asking.”
He added, “They’re fighting a war, and we’ll see what happens… we have two willing parties and we have two willing countries that want to see it end.”
The president said in a Sunday Truth Social post that he “just had a good and very productive telephone call” with Putin moments before his meeting with Zelenskyy.
Trump said his message to Putin during their phone call was that they have “got to make a deal.” He noted that he believes “we have the makings of a deal.”
Following his meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump said they covered “95%” of the issues needed to put an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict that kicked off in 2022.
