US President Donald Trump is expected to attend the G7 leaders’ summit in France next month, despite growing tensions between Washington and several key allies over the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to a report by Axios.
The summit, scheduled to take place in Évian-les-Bains, France, from June 15 to 17, will bring together leaders of the world’s major advanced economies to discuss issues including artificial intelligence, trade, crime prevention and global security. However, the war involving Iran is also expected to dominate discussions.
Trump’s attendance had reportedly been uncertain due to frustration with G7 countries such as France, Germany, Italy and the UK, which have not fully backed his administration’s approach toward Iran. The disagreement has strained relations between the US and several traditional allies amid broader concerns over the conflict’s trajectory.
According to Axios, French President Emmanuel Macron has attempted to ease tensions by planning a formal dinner at the Palace of Versailles following the summit — a gesture seen as aimed at improving ties with Trump.
The report comes as the Iran conflict continues to cast a shadow over global diplomacy. During a recent meeting of G7 finance ministers in Paris, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged member nations to strengthen sanctions targeting what he described as Iranian-backed activities and funding networks.
Reuters reported that Trump intends to use the summit to push discussions on linking US aid with trade agreements, encouraging wider adoption of American AI technologies and addressing concerns over China’s dominance in critical mineral supply chains.
Trump’s participation signals that, despite disagreements over Iran and other geopolitical issues, Washington remains engaged in multilateral discussions with major allies at a time of heightened global uncertainty.
