Turkey will offer to mediate talks between Washington and Tehran as Abbas Araghchi visits Ankara amid rising US-Iran tensions and threats from Trump.

Turkey will offer to mediate talks between Washington and Tehran during Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Ankara on Friday, officials said on Thursday.
Araghchi will visit Turkey for talks with his counterpart Hakan Fidan on the recent developments in Iran and tensions with the United States.
AFP quoted a Turkish diplomatic source saying that Fidan will tell Araghchi on Friday that his country “is ready to contribute to resolving the current tensions through dialogue", a said.
The upcoming visit comes after US President Donald Trump threatened a military strike on Iran over its crackdown on protests earlier this month.

Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said a massive US naval armada, led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, was heading to the region and was “ready, willing, and able to rapidly fulfill its mission, with speed and violence, if necessary."
Trump told Tehran to “come to the table" for a fair and equitable agreement on nuclear weapons, saying that time was “truly of the essence."

According to AFP, a US naval strike group arrived in Middle East waters on Monday with Trump warning it was “ready, willing and able" to hit Iran “if necessary".
In response, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that Tehran’s forces have their “fingers on the trigger" and are ready to respond “immediately and forcefully" to any US military action, even as he signalled openness to negotiations on the country’s nuclear programme.
Iran’s mission to the United Nations on Wednesday said they remain committed to continue dialogue “based on mutual respect" but warned that “if pushed" it will “defend and respond like never before".

“Last time the U.S. blundered into wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, it squandered over $7 trillion and lost more than 7,000 American lives," Iran said in a post on X.
It further said: “Iran stands ready for dialogue based on mutual respect and interests—but if pushed, it will defend itself and respond like never before."
Tensions between the US and Iran have escalated amid ongoing unrest in Iran, where protests over the government’s crackdown have left thousands dead.
