British Prime Minister Keir Starmer accused billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk of attempting to deepen divisions in the United Kingdom through his social media commentary on the murder of teenager Henry Nowak, as the country grapples with violent protests and growing concerns over online misinformation.

The remarks came amid mounting political pressure on Keir Starmer’s government following unrest linked to the killing of 18-year-old Henry Nowak, whose death has sparked demonstrations, clashes with police and renewed debate over race, social cohesion and the influence of online platforms.

Speaking during a visit to Yorkshire, Keir Starmer alleged that Musk had sought to inflame tensions through his interventions in British political debates.

“We need to also assert who we are as a country, because Musk, again, has been interfering in our politics in the last few days, trying to whip up division. That is not who we are in Britain," Starmer was quoted as saying by AFP.

The controversy centres on the December killing of Nowak, a British student, by Vickrum Digwa, a 23-year-old Nihang Sikh man. The case has generated intense public debate and has been seized upon by several far-right groups, which have accused authorities of mishandling the investigation and response.

Musk, a vocal supporter of the far-right Restore Britain movement led by former Reform UK politician Rupert Lowe, has repeatedly posted about the case on social media in recent weeks.

The issue has gained additional attention following allegations that police handcuffed Nowak as he lay seriously injured after the stabbing, prompting criticism from campaigners and protesters. A rally held under the banner “Justice for Henry Nowak" in Southampton this week descended into violence, leaving 11 police officers and a police dog injured. Demonstrators reportedly threw bricks, bottles and other objects at officers guarding the convicted killer’s residence.
