Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday held a meeting with a delegation from the China-Bangladesh Partnership Forum at the State Guest House Jamuna, according to an official statement from the Chief Adviser’s Office.

The delegation included senior Chinese academics, investors and industry leaders working in sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, digital technology and law. During the meeting, they discussed possible areas of cooperation between Bangladesh and China, particularly in health, education and technology.

Leading Chinese biomedical scientist Xin-yuan Fu, Director of the West China School of Medicine at Sichuan University, praised Professor Yunus’s vision and said he was keen to work with Bangladeshi academics to improve people’s lives.

Representatives from Walvax Biotechnology, including senior advisor Andrew Zilong Wong and managing director Yuqing Yao, also shared their interest in expanding collaboration with Bangladesh. The company currently exports vaccines to more than 20 countries and is exploring ways to localise vaccine production in different regions.

Members of the delegation told Professor Yunus that they had interacted with Bangladeshi university students on artificial intelligence and digitalisation. They said they were impressed by the talent and potential of young people in the country.

During the interaction, Professor Yunus spoke about his long association with China, which began through the microcredit movement. He recalled visiting remote Chinese villages and witnessing changes inspired by similar development ideas.

“I had the opportunity to visit remote villages in China and see how people’s lives were being transformed. Later, the Chinese government launched its own programmes inspired by these principles," he said.

He also spoke about his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a visit to China in March.

“He told me that he had read my book and followed its principles. That was a very happy moment for me," Professor Yunus said.

The Chief Adviser underlined that cooperation between Bangladesh and China should continue even after a new government takes charge.

“In a few weeks, I will be out of this office and a new government will form, but the work between our two countries must go on," he said.

Highlighting the interim government’s priorities, Professor Yunus said healthcare remained the top focus. He stressed the importance of using digital technology to improve access to doctors, preserve medical records and simplify appointments. He also called for promoting social business models in the pharmaceutical sector to make medicines affordable and people-centric.

The delegation thanked Professor Yunus and expressed interest in future collaboration across health, infrastructure and digital sectors.
