Keeping up with its social media game, the Iranian Embassy in South Africa has yet again unleashed a fresh salvo at U.S. President Donald Trump, using a viral maritime audio clip to call him an “idiot".

The diplomatic exchange erupted as an audio clip — purportedly comprising radio communications from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy — made rounds on social media.

“Strait of Hormuz is still closed. We will open by the order of our leader Imam Khamenei, not by the tweets of some idiot", an IRGC Navy personnel was heard saying in the clip.

What followed was a stark warning to all vessels attempting to navigate the strategic Strait of Hormuz. “If you want to pass through the Strait, you must ask for the permission from the Iranian Sepah navy. All vessels that have a connection with our enemies will be targeted if they try to pass the Strait of Hormuz," the message said.

An Audio Clip, An ‘Idiot’ Jibe

Multiple social media accounts claimed the word “idiot" was directed at Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

An account on ‘X’, under the name ‘Donald J Trump Posts Truth Social’, said the IRGC called Iran’s Foreign Minister an ‘idiot’ — a claim that was countered by Tehran.

“IRGC Navy called Iran’s own Foreign Minister an “idiot" over open maritime radio", the message read.

In retaliation, the Iranian Embassy in South Africa wrote, “You idiot, he meant your Idiot President, Trump. Just google ‘idiot’—you’ll understand who it is".

For context, Iran declared the closure of the Strait of Hormuz again on Saturday, following the row over Washington’s blockade of the Iranian ports.

Tehran described the blockade as a direct “violation of the conditions of the ongoing ceasefire". “Due to the violation of the ceasefire conditions, and as the American adversary has not lifted the naval blockade on Iranian vessels and ports, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed as of this evening until this blockade is removed," the IRGC said in a statement on Saturday.
